우리의 전통과 문화를 일상의 공예적 감성으로 소개하는 일상여백은 창작자들에게 끊임없는 영감의 원천인 달을 주제로 오늘의 일상에 숨 쉬는 우리의 전통과 문화 감성을 재발견할 수 있는 기획전《달》을 마련한다. 

달에 담긴 우리의 고유의 정서적 미감을 공예성을 바탕으로 한 다양한 작업으로 선보이는 이번 전시는, 달의 상징성과 상상적 심상을 동시대에 살아있는 문화코드로조선의 희고 큰 둥근 항아리 백자대호를 달항아리로 거듭나게 한 화가 김환기의 시선에서 그 이야기를 시작해본다. 

“내 뜰에는 한 아름 되는 백자 항아리가 놓여 있다.
몸이 둥글고 굽이 아가리보다 좁기 때문에 놓여 있는 것 같지가 않고 

공중에 둥실 떠 있는 것 같다. 희고 맑은 살에 구름이 떠가도 그늘이 지고 

시시각각 태양의 농도에 따라 청백자 항아리는 미묘한 변화를 창조한다.

칠야삼경에도 뜰에 나서면 허연 항아리가 엄연하여 마음이 든든하고 

더욱이 달밤일 때면 항아리가 흡수하는 월광으로 인해
온통 내 뜰에 달이 꽉 차 있는 것 같기도 하다.”

이번 전시에는 시간을 머금은 먹빛에서 우러나오는 고졸하면서도 현대적인 형태미를 보여주는 토기 항아리와 조선시대 생활 기물 백자대호를 오늘의 달항아리로 이어가는 김판기, 김상인, 윤상현, 이용순의 백자, 전통 재료인 옻과 한지의 물성 탐구와 더불어 사진 매체의 재현과 현시에 관한 실험을 보여주는 김현식의 회화, 도료이자 표현의 재료로서 옻칠과 표면의 관계를 섬세한 방식으로 보여주는 박미경의 금속기와 오브제, 동을 두드려 만든 표면이 은은한 빛으로 조용하고 따뜻한 온도를 전해주는 김재윤의 금속기, 어느 날 바라본 밤바다의 달과 물에 비친 달그림자를 달스푼으로 만들어 기억하는 일상의 도구 최성우의 목기가 함께 한다. 

일상의 생활에 가려져 보이지 않던 평범한 크고 흰 둥근 항아리가 달빛의 영감으로 빛나는 예술가의 어느 뜰에서 달항아리로 거듭났던 그 시간, 그 시선을 따라가 보는 이번 전시가 언제나 함께하기에 보이지 않았던 일상의 아름다움을 발견하는 오래된 미래로 한걸음 다가가기를 기대한다.

Ilsangyeoback introduces Korean tradition and culture with a sense of craft in our daily lives, as presented in our first exhibition “Moon”. The theme shows the moon is not only a source of constant inspiration for artists today but also a site of rediscovery in Korean tradition and culture, in the now. The artists try to find the contemporary cultural code of today from the symbolic and imaginative character of the moon. The story starts with the great Korean painter, Kim Whan Ki. 

“There is a porcelain jar in my garden,

It looks like it is floating in the air, because the mouth of jar is narrower 

than the width of the heel on the bottom of the rounded body. 

The jar creates delicate changes: shades by clouds or by the sun.

The bright white porcelain reassured me at midnight.  

As it absorbs moonlight that I feel my garden is filled with the moon.”

Kim Whan Ki 1955.5

A plain white big porcelain jar transformed into a moon jar inspired the great painter Kim Whan Ki. We follow his perspective in our exhibition: to find the beauty in our ordinary life.  

The black colored earthenware from the Koryo dynasty, with the beauty of its modern shape, will be presented. Kim Pan Ki, Lee Yongsoon, Yoon Sang Hyun and Kim Sang In present Moon Jars, descendants of the big porcelain jar from the Chosun dynasty.  Otchil hanji painting by Kim Hyun Sik, whose quest for materials such as otchil and hanji, is recognized as an artist of traditional media for representation, similar to his experimental work of photography toward today. Park Mee Kyeong who revealed the relationship with otchil and surface of brassware brought otchil brass objects to the exhibition. White porcelain tableware by Kim Sang In and Yoon Sang Hyun will also be included. We have hammered bronze tableware that conveys the calm warmth of Kim Jae Yoon’s hand. Sung Woo Choi, who remembered the night sea and the moon shadow, transformed his memory as moon spoons.
